Case Study 2

Client had difficulty getting staff to take health and safety seriously, which resulted in accidents at work and some horseplay among employees when owner was not present.

Benmore introduced a health & safety policy which employees had been involved in introducing and certain employees were asked to take responsibility for maintenance and supervision during working hours. Risk assessments were carried out and all staff was given awareness training in both health & safety and risk assessment. Manual handling, COSHH, fire safety and evacuation awareness training was also given.

Employees signed for the training and a system of regular inspection of machinery, plant and work activities was introduced. Systematic refresher awareness training on key health and safety issues was planned for and an induction policy for new employees was introduced.

Horse play was cut out and accidents were significantly reduced which helped with insurance renewal and the new health and safety policy with risk assessments helped reduce insurance costs.
